Our Team

The members of Freedom's management team have more than 110 years of collective rail experience. The team is led by the company's managing principal Mike Salek. Over the past five years, the Freedom team has loaded more than 400,000 railcars.

Mike Salek

Managing Principal

Mike Salek, Vice President of Operations and a partner, joined Freedom in 2011, bringing with him extensive experience in the operations of Transloads. He began his career in 1986, with Reload Inc. In 1989, Mr. Salek joined the military and spent a decade in military service. He returned to Reload Inc. in 2001 and stayed through the purchase of Reload Inc. by Watco Companies, LLC to form Watco Transload and Intermodal Services. At Watco, until his departure to join Freedom, Mr. Salek played a role in the EOG operating plans for Stanley, North Dakota; Stroud, Oklahoma; and Refugio, Texas.

Brian Caton

Vice President of EH&S and Compliance

Brian Caton joined Freedom Terminal Services and Freedom Railcar Solutions in 2016, bringing with him 10 years of experience in the environmental, health and safety field. He is responsible for environmental, health and safety. Prior to joining the companies he was a Regional Safety Supervisor for STRAD ENERGY Services. With STRAD he led the successful implementation of management-of-change and the behavior-based safety programs in the western region of the United States. Mr. Caton proudly served in the United States Air Force for 22 years with experience in the logistics and transportation of munitions systems. Along with being assigned as the area's Safety Manager working closely with ground and weapons safety for over 15 years, he was also assigned to quality assurance for two years as an inspector. In his spare time enjoys woodworking and yard work. He loves spending time with his wife Nam out exploring new areas of interest. They have two grown children, Jennifer and Ken.

Mr. Caton holds a Bachelor’s in safety management, a Master’s in occupational safety and health from the University of Central Missouri and a Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) from Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)

Jimmy McClain

Assistant Vice President

Mr. McClain has more than 20 years of experience in the logistics and transportation industry with a focus on operational efficiency. Mr. McClain has held positions with Central Transport/CC Southern as the dock contractor, receiving and shipping GM parts via truck and rail; Wood Group ESP where he was responsible for receiving, warehousing and shipping down hole oil and gas equipment and parts throughout North and South America, the United Arab Emirates and Russia; and USF Distribution Services, Inc (now YRC Logistics) where he oversaw operations for Oklahoma facilities in Oklahoma City. Before becoming part of the Freedom team he was employed by Watco Companies, LLC as the Southern Regional Director of Operations for Watco Transload & Intermodal Services. In 2009, while at Watco, he was a member of the startup team for EOG-Stroud, Oklahoma. Mr. McClain proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and loves spending time with his four grandchildren.
